LM Robotics successful

During the weekend of March 14-15, LM’s newest robot “Kaylee” took part in its first regional robotics competition of the 2015 season. The 2015 “FIRST Robotics Competition,” or FRC, is played in three on three alliance style matches composed of teams from high schools across the Mid-Atlantic; each alliance trying to outscore the other.

On Friday, during the qualification portion of the competition, LM’s Dawgma Robotics Team ranked fifth out of the 34 teams. “Kaylee” focused on earning “Coopertition Points,” which would allow both alliances to gain an additional 40 points. This decision solidified her fifth place finish. Subsequently, Dawgma was made an Alliance Captain during the elimination rounds.

The next day, Kaylee made Dawgma history! Dawgma’s alliance of three robots made it through the quarterfinals and semifinals, ultimately placing second and loosing only to the two best robots in attendance. Dawgma received recognition as a finalist and was awarded the Industrial Design award for its dedication to a rigorous design process and intensive work in AutoDesk, a program that allows students to visualize, simulate, and analyze the robot using a digital model during the design process.

Dawgma hopes to continue its success at its next competition at Upper Darby High School on March 28-29. Because of its high ranking and the awards it received, Dawgma expects to continue to the Mid-Atlantic Regional Championships at Lehigh University.
