More than just a team

A personal anecdote from a former member of Philadelphia's own Taney Little League
I first heard of Taney Baseball when I was five years old. I remember listening to friends at school talk about this field and league that was just right down the street. Every time someone had to say something about it, they were just ecstatic and thrilled to share. This then led me to ask my parents if I could join this league of which everyone spoke so highly. On the first day, my family and I arrived to the baseball field. I could feel the excite- ment. As the years went on and on, I began to realize how special Taney Baseball is to not just the children and families but also to the community. By the time I was ten years old, I was playing center field for the very same team that is now led by its young stars in Mo’ne Davis, Jared Sprague-Lott, Scott Bandura, and Alex Rice. The Taney Dragons, at the time, were not very good. However, every game we played at home was very well attended

by people who lived in the area. As I look back at the times, Taney Baseball was more than just a Little League for them. It was a way for them to slow down, relax, and enjoy some good times. I will never forget playing for the Taney Dragons, and I am extremely proud of those kids who worked hard and made history for Taney Baseball.
